Wahha!!

"The first time we ever asked for water, did we say “Could you please pour me a glass of water, I'm thirsty?"
No. First we said, “Wahha!”
And we were praised and praised for that. Mom and dad jumped up and down--called grandma and grandpa and all that good stuff.
Then, because our parents didn't want us ordering “wahha” when we were adults, what was “praised” was altered until it became closer to the desired result.
Did we get up smoothly the first time we tried to walk, then cruise around, maybe even throwing in a little moon walk?
Not most of us! Same rules apply: Cheering and cheering on that first crawl then the first tentative step…until, soon enough, we could do the amazing: walk!
Imagine if we scolded a baby as they fell the first couple of times. What would happen? NO ONE WOULD EVER LEARN TO WALK!!
So, why in the world would we not praise the “baby steps” we take as we learn something new?
Wahha!!!"

  1. Hi Surjit :)

How true. We should always use encouragement as one of the tools to create change in others, and in ourselves.

Thank you for sharing this much neglected wisdom with others.

Namaste, peace and honour to you.

I find the best form of encouragement I can give someone is to share my enjoyment of who they are and the things they might say or do. This is not quite the same as praise which can be offered to please. The energy of my joy, on the other hand, feels pure and spontaneous.

    Warm wishes, Lucy

  9. Hallos Surjit,

Think something was wrong with Blogger, I remember leaving a comment for this post but appears, it's missing now!

Oh well, good things are worth saying one more time. Thanks for this great post. In this competitive world today, I hope people are more tolerant to one another when we encounter areas that we are failing or as immature as a baby!

  11. hi surjit very true..everything we do we need encouragement. Some parents just spoil/cut off the children's interest by discouraging them. This should not happen..Parents should encourage them in what they are interested in. But parents can be good guidance for them.

    Warm regards

  13. And we are all, no doubt, stumbling each and every day on our steps towards happiness - and our Father looks down with the warmest love and encouragement - each one of His enormous family receives it in equal amounts - if we could but recognise it.

  15. Of course encouragement to make us inspired to go on. Discouragement really makes us down as we don't get support.
