Are We Miserable????

Most of us will say..yes, we are miserable.
This is because we feel that we are inadequate, deficient or incomplete. And we try to overcome these deficiencies through worldly pleasures.
However any gain that comes as a result of our efforts in this direction is not absolute because it is associated with loss. The gain obtained is always negated by the time and effort expended, by the responsiblity assumed or by any other thing sacrificed.
For instance when I buy a house or a car, the pleasure and security I gain are negated by the money spent, the debt incurred, the subsequent maintenence, insurance, taxes, etc; all of which take away something from the feeling of adequecy and comfort that I sought before buying these things.
We must remember that an inadequate person remains inadequate even after gaining the desired object.
So an enlightened person is he who recognises that what he really wants is a drastic change in himself and not a situational change.

This realisation brings dispassion towards the pursuits of worldly things and will ultimately lead us to the path of LIBERATION.
Do you agree?

  1. Respected and my dearest Surjitji,
My Humble Pranaam :)Hope you are doing fine and all is well with you.
An excellent reminder and an eyeopening post!
I totally agree with you surjitji. We usually give so much of undue importance on the materialistic things of the outer world and undoubtedly give them the power to grant us peace, happiness and contentment. Which in reality is our biggest mistake!
It's not the acquisition of worldly objects but the realisation that they are just mere toys given by God temporarily to while away our time. Just as children who get tired playing with the same toy after a while so is the case with us, satisfaction is lost after we have acquired the thing we desire and then seek another toy...another desire, another sense object, another blow to our innerpeace!
True liberation comes only after the realisation that happiness and contentment do not depend upon mere worldly objects!
Ultimately its all the creation of our disillusioned minds that needs a change :)
My Heartfelt love and prayers for you and your loved ones:)

  3. We cannot change a person without their own realization.

  8. Hello Paisley,
I think it all depends upon person to person how one looks at the life. It is a question of whether the glass is half full or half empty.
    Thanks for sharing your insights.

  11. Hi Surjit,
Many people are miserable because they don't know that they already possess the treasures they are seeking.
