Don't Dance So Fast

"Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round,
Or listened to the rain slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butter fly's erratic flight,
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?
You better slow down...
Don't dance so fast,
Time is short.
The music won't last ....
Do you run through each day on the fly,
When you ask "How are you?"
Do you hear the reply?
When the day is done,
Do you lie in your bed
with the next hundred chores running through your head?
You'd better slow down.
Don't dance so fast,
Time is short,
The music won't last....
Ever told your child,
we'll do it tomorrow.
And in your haste, not see his sorrow?
Ever lost touch, and let a good friendship die
'Cause you never had time to call and say "Hi"?
You'd better slow down.
Don't dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last. ...
When you run so fast to get somewhere,
you miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day,
it is like an unopened gift....
Thrown away...
Life is not a race.
Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over."

  1. "life is not a race"...

true, too bad we grow up learning the we have to hurry up..every morning when I have to take my kids to school, you should see me running as if there is no tomorrow.

thanks for reminding us to slow down. :-)

  7. Indeed, I feel that it is a very important lesson in today's very fast paced society to be able to slow down.

There is such beauty in this world, if only we are able to slow down and observe them. To feel the nice warmth of sunshine that welcomes us into every new day, to listen to the birds chirping away, to admire the vibrant colours of nature .. the trees, the flowers or simple the grass.

Life is Beautiful. Slow down and observe and it will open up to your inner eyes.

    Have a great weekend, Surjit!

  8. Slowing down and simply being silent to "experience the music of life in every moment" is a great message!

I am reminded of the saying that "It is the silence between the notes that make the music".

So, it is not in frenetic activity, but in those relaxed moments that we experience the FULL GLORY OF LIFE!

Thanks for sharing this (yet another) gem!

  11. When the speed is less
    The moments are available
    To be with the silence
    And feel refreshed
    Moment to Moment.

  12. Hi Surjit, so happy to be here today and probably the timing was right...I needed to hear those words...Life is not a race.
Do take it slower. Hear the music
Before the song is over." - I often forget that I am supposed to enjoy life and not race against it.

Thank you for a lovely post.
