Resent Not

"There are no justified resentments. To resent someone is to fall under the illusion that they are the cause of our suffering. No one can die from a snake bite. It's the poison that kills....
We may receive the poison of another’s words, or even just in a glance, but we don’t have to absorb it or allow it free passage through the veins of our consciousness.
The consequence of not absorbing the poison of others is we never experience enmity towards others. And when people notice that we have absolutely no enmity, it draws them close..., it builds trust and harmony.
It is only because the lion has no thought of killing the lamb that the lamb feels able to come so close..."

  3. I'm not high enough in consciousness to truly absorb this one yet. How do you not absorb that which breaks your heart ?

  9. Letting go of resentment has more benefit to the one resenting compared to the one being resented.

At times, one's Ego refuses to let go. The Ego wants to be right and loves to judge others. To prove others wrong. But that does not give peace and calm to the mind. The incessant chatter to condemn the resented to the deepest dungeons of hell only torture the resenter more and more.

I believe in the timeless advice: Forgive & Forget. It might seem painful. The Ego definitely does not like it. But do it ... to liberate oneself.

Thanks for this wonderful post, Surjit!

    Have a Beautiful week ahead!

  13. This is SO true, Surjit! We can choose to react towards something bad or just let it go and not react.

  14. Surjit,
    I like the anaology that,

"No one can die from a snake bite. It's the poison that kills."

The poison often kills us when we are caught off guard. We are not prepared for the bite, we haven't taken the right precautions. Though poison can kill us, the right person can suck it out of us and send us on our way back to love. Love has a way of working it's magic through our veins.

  20. Hi Surjit,

It is not wise to resent. Resent is the poison that kills.

"What happens is not as important as how you react to what happens."

    Blessings to you, Surjit.
Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.

  21. Hi Surjit,
This is such a lovely and wonderfully inspiring post.

Although I still am working on being quick to anger. I have always been blessed with the ability to forgive.

I thank God for this gift he gave me. I may get mad but I quickly and easily forgive.

Holding a grudge only harms the person who holds it.

    God Bless,
    Jackie
