Divine Virtues

"Money can't buy real friendship—
friendship must be earned.
Money can't buy a clear conscience—
square dealing is the price tag.

Money can't buy the glow of good health—
right living is the secret.
Money can't buy happiness—
happiness is a mental condition and one may be as happy in a cottage as in a mansion.

Money can't buy sunsets, songs of wild birds and the music of the wind in the trees—
these are as free as the air we breath.
Money can't buy inward peace—
peace is the result of a constructive philosophy in life.

Money can't buy a good character—
good character is achieved through decent habits of private living
and wholesome dealings in our open contacts with our fellow men."

  1. Hi Surjit...

Very lovely thought... thanks for passing it along!

Sometimes I get the sense that our society has gotten the impression that if we were rich we would be happy... as you point out, not so.

    Warmest wishes to you,

    Jen

  9. Another wonderful meditation for the day from Surjit! I love stopping here for refreshment! :-) It is said that "money is the root of all evil". I often believe that, it tends to seduce and corrupt people into thinking that having more is the ultimate goal... it isn't!

I once read a saying that I find most meaningful...

"Do you use things and love people, or do you use people and love things?" Materialism destroys spirituality.

  18. Surjit!

Paradoxically ... in most of lives, we strive so hard for Money. Thinking it would bring us happiness, security, ...

But alas! Most valuable things in life can't be bought by money.

Thanks for the good post Surjit!

  21. Ah Sujit, so very very true... Money brings choice, but it is far from all that matters. Genuine Friendship, a clear and honest conscience acting out of loving integrity, nature, reliable and responsibile and kind character and wholesome dealings are precious beyond measure....

  25. Overall I agree emphatically.

That said, it's unfortunate that, as per my post yesterday and my first reply on the discussion thread, today money in American does often make the difference between good and bad health and even life and death.
