Coping With Negativity

"You only have to pickup a newspaper to realise that the world is in a horrendous state. It is easy to become negative. If I want to become negative I can find 1001 reasons to be so. If I allow all these factors to influence me, then yes, it is as if 1000 guns were pointed at my head, so I feel extremely negative.
Another factor is the people I am surrounded by; it is very easy to become influenced by their negativity. I may be influenced by people that I work with and sometimes it is their negativity attacking me. Then it becomes difficult to maintain my balance, lightness and happiness because of their negative reactions and responses to everything or it could be my negative response towards them. I might not like the way they talk to me or look at me, so there is a gradual build-up of feelings of being pressured from all directions.
But on the other hand, if I look deep within,I will find that the problem is not actually the world outside or the people I am with. If I spend a few moments in honest reflection, I realise that whatever is going on inside of me is the root of my negativity......"
Do you think it so?

  3. Hi Surjit, I will argue that negatavism is a product of the internal and external influences in our lives.
I will reflect more on this though. It is good to be mindful of all things.

  4. Dear surjit, you have gotten to know me pretty well by now. I can definitely tell you that yes you are correct. It may be things from our past or things in the present. But, it is within ourselves how these things affect us. I know because this is one of my biggest battles. God Bless You surjit~Jackie

  10. Yes, agreed - we can find that peace and positiveness inside - no matter what is happening around us. We have only to look inside, feel it and let it surround us and spread.

    Peace and love today.

  12. Hi Surjit...

At times, I notice myself overcome with the sorrows of the world... I cannot look at a starving child, the cruelty of war, or a destroyed Rainforest, without feeling pain.

I believe the pain is part of our human existence... how we manage it is another thing! Suffering and embracing negativity does not have to accompany the pain.

I find a need for balance, allowing myself to feel and observe the pain, and also, to bask in the beauty and glory of life!

Thanks for these thoughts to ponder!

  14. Hi Surjit,

Thanks for this thought provoking post!

Indeed, we all could be easily get carried away, influenced and dwell upon the negative state. When people talk or discuss about problems, the more problems they will find cropping out. That's why in meeting, it is always better to inform everyone to bring in their solutions instead of talking about problems.

"The secret of living a life of excellence is merely a matter of thinking thoughts of excellence. Really, it's a matter of programming our minds with the kind of information that will set us free."- Charles R. Swindoll

Blessings and Joy to you Surjit.

  15. Very true Surjit...I believe we are ourselves responsible for the negativities and this is one thing which just spreads between equal minded people and our loved ones...somewhere if we ourselves stay firmly rooted to our beliefs the perhaps we can reduce our negativities...thoughtful post!

  18. Surjit! Hey there, great hearing from you! (I'll tell John you said happy birthday, he'll LOVE it--isn't he adorable?)

This is such a tough question you pose--do you always post such insightful questions? I need to bookmark so I can check in more.

I have to say I believe what you said sort of...I think there are triggers, outside influences that are so terribly off kilter and the person who can respond to them as Jesus would have--interracting also with the lowest of the lowly, is a much less negative person.

When bad things happen around us, I believe that is when God is calling us to draw nearer to him. It's our time to lean on Him, to hand our burdens to him and to be a gift to others. That's what I think, and it seems to work for me. So yes, in a roundabout way, your response is the root of influcences both negative and positive. ~Stacey

  20. Hi Surjit, I think the thinking that others are pushing negativity on us is yet another reason for us to be negative, and this comes from ourselves! Therefore, the negativity comes from within, and it might be enhanced by outside factors, but we must learn to control.

I think thinking of positive thoughts in pain or negative situations is very hard. What do you think, Surjit?

  22. Surjit, it's all about mindset. the negative or even positive, is how we put ourselves in that condition.

By being negative doesn't mean that we are fail, no, in fact we are lucky because we do have a chance to review it and make correction ... but once again, if we let ourselves do that ...

Love your post anyway, Have a great week Surjit
