The Door Without a Handle

"There is a beautiful picture by the famous artist, Holman Hunt. In the picture, Jesus is seen standing in a garden holding a lantern in one hand and with other, knocking on a door.
A friend of the artist said to him,"Holman, you have made a mistake.The door you have painted does not have a handle."
It is not a mistake," answered the artist."For that is the door of the human heart and it can only be opened from inside!"

  3. Hello Surjit,

    I completely agree with this statement. All emotion comes from within.

    As Sri Guru Granth Sahib says in your sidebar, the five theives come easily to the surface. Only love can be locked away by the body forever if the person is not willing to share it.

  5. Hi Surjit,

    I actually have a similar painting in my home... it reminds me that in my heart, lies the key to opening to others and to the divine!

    Thank you for this Surjit... I always find a moment of goodness and light here!

    Blessings to you,

  7. LOVELY post. Indeed if one doesn't let one's heart door to be opened, then nothing can come in. Self-defense can sometimes kick in and close the door to one's heart.

  19. Hi Surjit;

    Hope all is well with you?!

    The sentiment is so true, and there are so many who never open that door. What wonderful things must they be missing?

    Have a lovely day;

  21. Indeed our heart holds the key!

    For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. - Matthew 15:19

    Thanks for this post, Surjit!

  22. I believe that is true, Surjit...
    But loving kindness can send energy to someone and soften their willingness to open that door if they are meant to be in your path of life...

  26. Surjit, It needs a courage to open that "door" and let anybody come into the "house". Needs an open heart to let LOVE stays in that house. Sometimes people tend to forget that. In reality even ourself can't open that "door".

    Once again you give me the idea for my post. Have a happy week end.
