If I Die......

"A man lay on his death bed. For several years, he held a grudge against a friend who had dealt with him unfairly. Before dying, he wished to make peace with him and to tell him that the wrongs of the past were forgiven and forgotten.
When the friend arrived, the dying man embraced him and said," I am about to die. I wish to tell you that I bear no grudge against you. I forgive you for whatever has happened."

The friend was moved, a terrible weight seemed to have been lifted off his heart. His eyes glistened with unbidden tears.

Before he could leave, the dying man said," I forgive you only if I die. If I recover, I take back my words."
What do you call this man?....An egoistic, ignorant or both..

  1. good morning surjit.. this is probably a very common occurrence in the minds of men... i believe such a man is seeking superiority... even in death...if he is first to forgive, and then he dies,, he wins,, and if he doesn't die, he seeks to maintain his attitude of superiority over his fellow... sad but true...almost like a game of tag....

  6. Hi Surjit...

    Nice story!

I think the dying man is chained. Chained to his own anger and self centeredness.

The dying man is the one harmed by his harboring of anger.

    Hence.. my title suggestion: chained!

    Warmest wishes to you Surjit,

    jennifer

  7. Title: Till the very last breath

Hmm... could it be because the man want to be forgiven after death by God, that's why he is willing to forgives. However, if he is still alive, he want to hold on to his principle that he is not wrong!

I will call this man an egoistic and ignorant!

  8. Hi surjit I have two answers ...the first is that he is a sad man...the second is that yes he is ignorant....for not realizing that he cannot trick God of the true feelings within his own heart...therefore to die with these last words on his lips...he has condenmed himself. Once again a lovely share I hope you have a lovely week~Jackie

  13. This man can be called ignorant but I think misguided will be the better word. He is having a wrong view.

Forgive and forget before you die will be better than forgetting to forget after you die.

  15. hi surjit i consider that man is not brave enough to be a good man when he is facing death he is greedy he doesnt want to be punished by God and doesnt want to forgive the man if he is alive coz he will not give up his attitude.

  17. The first thought that comes to mind when reading this:

Why wait until the moment of death to swallow your pride and forgive someone...

    Take care Surjit!
