Excess

Excess: The state of exceeding what is normal or sufficient; Intemperance; overindulgence.

"Too many bright colours
Can blind you;

Too much sound
Deafen your ears

Too much spice
can burn your tongue.

Wanting more

can drive us crazy

Therefore.......

Reject excess,
Turn from externals........
Embrace the inner wisdom." ...(Tao)

  1. Nice saying Surjit, Embrace the inner wisdom. Why do we always go for more and more material things?

I can see the difference of internal external world after going to a shopping centre. My goodness! That is real madness. No comfort there at all.

    My good wishes

  3. Yes, That's very true!

Many of us will find that our shoes shelf are overloaded with shoes. Likewise our wardrobe are overloaded with clothing.

We need to remind ourselves that
"Needs can be met, greeds never."

"He who takes but never gives, may last for years but never lives."

"Abundant giving brings abundant living. Only one life, 'twill soon be past. Only what's done for others, will last."

Surjit, thanks for this simple truth!

  4. Namaste. I love this! We live in a society that pushes more-bigger-better, material excess and gratuitous consumerism, which leads to chronically dissatisfied people.

Thanks so much for visiting me. I love your blog. It is a cyber-oasis of peacefulness and wisdom. I'm working on building a website, so will only be where I am temporarily. Will visit you again soon.

  7. Hi Surjit... such wise words you share with us.

I wonder if we humans aren't often looking for the answers in our "stuff" rather than realizing that peace and joy are us.

Nothing out there to bring us love and fulfillment. It is in our hearts only to be found.

Thank you surjit for your inspiration and peaceful reminders...

    Blessings,

    Jennifer

    Wanting more...
    Can drive us crazy.

It seems to me that once you get what you want, then you are wanting more.

I agree, we should embrace our inner wisdom.
Great post, I needed to hear these words today.
    Thank you!

  13. Very true and I think our biggest challenge as humans! We all battle this and try to balance it in some form or another. Then there are those that just give in to it and lose themselves in it.

  15. Great piece of advice there.

Recently, I have been a victim of excesses too. Excess work, excess alcohol, and excess anger. Time to really reflect on the true meaning of life and try to simplify things.

Ambition and desire is a good thing but not when it is pushed to extremes.

    Thanks dude!

  19. For some people it's very difficult to find the happy middle and I happen to be one of them it's either underwhelming or over whelming for me... no middle grounds.
But after years of constantly oscillating between two opposite ends, I'm trying to find the balance....
